Alla Breve is the musical term for cut time, and with Alla Breve Educational Consulting, educational institutions can save time (and money) by being more efficient and effective with their data. With 25 years of research experience, Dr. Nicole (Catapano) Alioto spent the majority of her career working in higher education and K12 to use data for improving student outcomes and institutional effectiveness.

As a Technical Sales Specialist at IBM, Nicole assisted others in developing their understanding of the role that predictive analytics can play in their organizations. Working with education and public sector agencies, she focused on improving efficiency and effectiveness regarding data driven decisions. Prior to IBM, she was the Coordinator for the WSWHE BOCES Data Analysis Service, assisting 31 component districts in the analysis, interpretation, and use of data. In this role, she delivered staff development to teachers and administrators regarding student related performance data, surveys, and classroom assessments.

Previously, she was the Assistant Director of the University at Albany’s Evaluation Consortium and the Director of Institutional Research and Planning at Adirondack Community College (ACC). She currently teaches Predictive Analytics and Data Mining in Government Settings for John Hopkins University. She also has taught Tests and Measurement for SUNY Plattsburgh’s graduate program in education and courses in research methods, statistics, psychometrics, and psychology at The University of Connecticut, The College of Saint Rose and ACC. She enjoys giving guest lectures in K12 and higher education classes.

Nicole completed her Ph.D. in Social Psychology at the University of Connecticut, focusing on attitude and behavior change. Specifically, she applied social psychology theories to advertising and evaluated their effectiveness using structural equation modeling.

In her spare time, Nicole is President of Dansville ArtWorks Inc. and plays bassoon in the Hornell Area Wind Ensemble.
